Is it safe to use profiles?
Yes. Profiles only save and apply Graph View settings. They do not change people, families, events or other genealogy data.
Why are there both Standard and View profiles?
Standard profiles are intended for general Graph View settings and do not include the home or active person. View profiles can also save those persons and are therefore suited to a specific view in a specific family tree.
Can I return to the original Graph View settings?
Yes. The original Graph View settings are saved when the profile function is enabled for the first time. Profiles can also be used temporarily, allowing the previous settings to be restored when the family tree is closed.
Can profiles be used with more than one family tree?
Yes. General profile settings can be used in several family trees. View profiles may also contain a home or active person, so these details are checked when a profile is loaded in another family tree.
Can ProfileTag be used without profiles?
Yes. The ProfileTag filter can be selected independently from the Layout tab or the right-click menu. A manual selection applies only to the currently open family tree. To apply it automatically when a family tree opens, include it in a Standard or View profile.
What happens if a profile cannot be loaded?
Gramps Graph View Profiles checks the profile before applying it. If required information is missing or does not match the current family tree, a warning is shown and the unsafe parts are not applied.

Useful information for a bug report
A useful Gramps Graph View Profiles report should include the Gramps version, operating system, the steps that caused the problem, and what was expected to happen instead.
Personal family-tree data should not be shared. A small test tree or a profile file with identifying information removed is normally enough when an example is required.
