My name is Henning, and I live in Denmark.

I have used Gramps since I began working seriously with genealogy. I would not describe myself as a Gramps expert, and there are still many parts of the program that I have never needed to use. I am especially fond of the way Graph View presents a family tree visually. I also use MyHeritage, mainly as a research tool.

So far, I have helped two families create and organise their family trees, and I am currently working on my own. I have also created a private family website where the family trees can be viewed as HTML pages or downloaded as PDF files. Access is protected by password in order to respect the privacy of living family members.

My first small Gramps modification grew out of a practical problem. When several family trees are used, managing separate media paths can be inconvenient. Even when different paths are defined for individual family trees, they are not always used in the way I expected. I made a small change to improve this workflow and reported the issue to the Gramps team.

Another challenge is that many Graph View settings continue from one family tree to the next. This is not always helpful when each tree needs its own layout, colours, generations and display settings. Gramps Graph View Profiles was created to solve that problem by making it possible to save and load different Graph View setups.

Genealogy research in Denmark benefits from many excellent online resources. A large amount of historical material is available free of charge, including church records, censuses, probate records, estate records, military records and other archival sources.
